Talib Ahmed Bensouda has condemned acts of vandalism targeting his campaign properties, including billboards, while renewing his call for peaceful elections.
In a statement issued on Thursday, Bensouda said acts of vandalism and destruction had been reported since Wednesday night and continued into Thursday morning.
He also disclosed that an individual had reportedly entered the Bakoteh dumpsite, deliberately started a fire at its centre and fled the scene.
Bensouda warned that such actions posed a danger to the public, particularly residents of Bakoteh, and questioned their relevance to advancing the political ambitions of any candidate.
“I renew my call for a peaceful election,” he said, addressing those responsible for the reported incidents.
He further insisted that the incidents would not intimidate him or distract his campaign from its objectives.
“We remain committed to a peaceful, free and fair election,” Bensouda stated.
