The Gambia Immigration Department (GID), through its Border Patrol Unit in Tanji, intercepted eleven people suspected of preparing to embark on an irregular migration journey. The interception was done on Friday, 26 September 2026, at Batokunku in the West Coast Region, during an enforcement operation.
The intercepted group consists of eight Gambian nationals โ five (5) males and three (3) females โ and three (3) Senegalese males.
The operation also saw the arrest of a suspected facilitator, Madi Camara, a 26-year-old Malian national, accused of facilitating the irregular migration of the eleven persons.
The eleven intercepted migrants and the suspected facilitator are currently being held as investigations continue to establish the circumstances around the planned irregular migration journey.
The Gambia Immigration Department reiterates its commitment to countering irregular migration and protecting vulnerable persons from the perils of irregular migration routes.
