President Adama Barrow has once again assured that the country will one day attain his objective of generating adequate electricity supply, and even supply other countries.
Speaking at a road inauguration in Sanyang on Monday, the president used the occasion to address concerns over the current electricity crisis affecting many parts of the country.
According to the president, his government is urgently working to resolve the current challenges in the power sector which he said expanded massively since he took office.
According to Barrow, three new machines are currently being transported to The Gambia by ship, with platforms for the machines already being prepared for immediate installment once they arrived.
He also disclosed that government has completed a tender process for a 50-megawatt solar power plant and work on that is expected to begin soon and will add to the country’s electricity generation capacity.
He expressed confidence that the planned investments will eventually take The Gambia beyond its current electricity needs.
The president also accused the opposition of using electricity shortages as a weapon to demonise his government which has in fact done more in the sector than any other government.
