The Gambia Football Federation (GFF) has made significant progress towards financial stability by substantially reducing its debt within six months.
Over the six months ending in mid-2026, the Federation reduced its total debt from 171 million dalasi to 71.5 million dalasi, demonstrating a concerted effort to improve financial stability while maintaining support for national football development.
Mr Ismaila Njie, the Finance Director of the GFF, shared this information during an exclusive interview with GFF Media at our head office in Kanifing on Thursday, 6 August 2026.
Mr Njie said the following:
Visa Bank Loan Liquidated: As at December 31, 2025, the GFF held a loan portfolio of 62.871 million dalasi with Visa Bank. Within six months, the balance was fully repaid.
Travel Debt Slashed: Accumulated travel expenses with Cinderella Travel & Tours—incurred for airfare for national teams competing in international fixtures and qualifiers—totalled 95.899 million dalasi by 31st December 2025. By June 30, 2026, the debt had been reduced to 62.9 million dalasi.
Other liabilities reduced: Additional outstanding portfolios, such as Saller for the kit supply, were reduced from 14 million dalasi to 8.6 million dalasi.
A commitment to sustainability
This progress stems from a deliberate strategy of strict fiscal discipline, prudent austerity, and sound financial management. The initiatives were spearheaded by the GFF Executive Committee and implemented by the Finance Department.
The successful implementation of these measures was led by Mr Njie and his team. In recognition of the organisation’s confidence in his leadership, Mr Njie—previously Acting Finance Director—was officially confirmed as the substantive Finance Director, effective from 1st July 2026.
