BANJUL, The Gambia
The leadership of the Gambia Chamber of Commerce and Industry (GCCI) has reaffirmed its commitment to working closely with the Government to address challenges facing businesses and promote private-sector-led economic development following a special courtesy call on His Excellency President Adama Barrow at the State House.
The high-level meeting, chaired by the Chief of Staff, provided an important platform for the Chamber, as the leading representative body of the private sector, to brief the President on its ongoing activities, share key concerns affecting businesses, and discuss the role of the private sector in advancing investment, job creation and sustainable national development.
The engagement also created an opportunity for the GCCI leadership to strengthen dialogue with the Government and highlight the importance of a supportive and enabling business environment in driving economic growth.
Speaking following the engagement, the President of the GCCI described the courtesy call as a significant opportunity to bring the perspectives and concerns of the business community directly to the attention of the country’s leadership.
“The private sector remains a critical driver of economic growth, employment creation and innovation. This engagement with His Excellency the President provided us with a valuable opportunity to share the work of the GCCI, highlight some of the challenges confronting businesses and reaffirm our commitment to supporting the country’s economic development agenda,” the GCCI President said.
The GCCI President further emphasized the Chamber’s readiness to deepen collaboration with the Government and other stakeholders to create conditions that enable businesses to grow, invest and contribute more effectively to national development.
“We believe that sustained dialogue and stronger public-private sector collaboration are essential to building a competitive and resilient economy. The GCCI will continue to serve as a constructive partner and a strong voice for the private sector while working with Government to identify practical solutions to the challenges affecting businesses,” the President added.
During the meeting, the GCCI delegation provided updates on the Chamber’s programmes and initiatives aimed at supporting businesses, promoting entrepreneurship, strengthening private-sector participation and contributing to the broader economic transformation of The Gambia.
The delegation also underscored the need for continued engagement between the public and private sectors to address barriers to business growth, encourage investment, enhance competitiveness and unlock opportunities for enterprise development.
The Chamber noted that a vibrant private sector is essential to creating employment opportunities, expanding economic activity and supporting inclusive and sustainable growth. It therefore reaffirmed its commitment to promoting initiatives and partnerships that strengthen the business community and contribute to national prosperity.
The GCCI leadership expressed its appreciation to the Chief of Staff, for chairing the meeting and to President Barrow for the warm reception and gracious hospitality extended to the delegation during the visit.
The courtesy call concluded with a shared recognition of the importance of continued cooperation between the Government and the private sector in advancing The Gambia’s development priorities.
As the country continues to pursue economic growth and transformation, the GCCI says it remains committed to championing the interests of the business community and working with Government, development partners and other stakeholders to build a more competitive, inclusive and resilient economy.
