Hightlighting the positive impact of Gambian artists on society, the Gambia High Commission in London was honored to host a special visit from renowned Afromanden performer Oboy and young musician Gambian Child. The artists, who are currently in the UK for cultural festivals and celebrations, were welcomed by Her Excellency Dr. Fatou Bensouda, the High Commissioner of The Gambia to the UK.
Oboy and Gambian Child have captivated audiences with their unique traditional music and have become admired figures, particularly among younger generations. During their visit, Dr. Bensouda praised them for being cultural ambassadors for The Gambia and encouraged them to continue using their music to inspire and promote positive values. She reminded them of the important role artists play in shaping society and urged them to stay true to their artistic journey and avoid negative influences.
The High Commissioner assured the artists that they will always have a home at Gambia House in the UK and encouraged them to maintain close ties with the Mission. She also expressed her gratitude to Mr. Ebou Juwara for accompanying the artists during their visit.
In addition, Deputy Head of Mission Mr. Suntou Touray welcomed the artists and emphasized the value of producing authentic and uplifting music that celebrates Gambian identity and culture. He highlighted the significant role of the creative industry in national development and encouraged Oboy and Gambian Child to use their talents to make a positive impact on society.
Mr. Touray also provided a brief overview of the work of the High Commission and expressed his appreciation for the artists’ visit. The Gambia High Commission in London is proud to support and showcase the positive influence of Gambian artists on a global stage.
