The Drug Law Enforcement Agency, The Gambia (DLEAG) has arrested several individuals in separate anti-drug operations conducted across different parts of the country between April and May 2026.
Among those arrested was 26-year-old Senegalese national Chiekh Diong, also known as John, who was intercepted at the Kerr Jatta checkpoint on May 12 with two blocks of suspected cannabis resin, commonly known as hashish, allegedly concealed inside his luggage.
DLEAG also arrested 22-year-old Alasana Jarju of Sinchu Wurry with 64 bundles of suspected cannabis sativa reportedly concealed in multiple bags while riding a motorcycle without a registration number plate.
In another operation conducted in Jambanjelly, officers arrested Ousman Ceesay, 30, and Maimuna Njie, 34, with suspected crack cocaine, including one large stone and 20 smaller stones allegedly hidden in a plastic bag.
Other arrests made during the operations involved suspects allegedly found with varying quantities of prohibited and controlled substances, including cannabis sativa, skunk, hashish, ecstasy, cocaine, molly, crystal meth (MDMA), tramadol, diazepam, and oxazepam.
Among those arrested were residents from Dippa Kunda, Sanyang, Basse, Brikama, Tanji, Gunjur, Sukuta, Latrikunda, Farafenni, Bijilo, and other communities. A 76-year-old Dutch national residing in Kololi and an Indian national residing in Fajara were also among those apprehended in separate cases.
According to DLEAG, all suspects are currently in custody as investigations into their respective cases continue.
