Police arrest two suspects in house- breaking and theft case in Basse

The Basse CID has arrested two suspects in connection with an alleged house-breaking and theft case involving motorcycles and mobile phones in Manneh Kunda Village.

The principal suspect, Abas Baldeh, a 19-year-old resident of Manneh Kunda, was arrested in the early hours of Thursday, February 5, 2026, after he was allegedly caught attempting to steal from the residence of Ousman Jallow, a teacher and resident of the village. Police reports indicate that the suspect assaulted the complainant while attempting to escape but was eventually overpowered and taken into custody.

During investigations, the suspect was confronted with several previous theft cases and allegedly admitted involvement in multiple mobile phone thefts. He subsequently led investigators to Muhammed Fofana, who was arrested for allegedly receiving stolen mobile phones.

Further investigations revealed that the principal suspect allegedly stole several motorcycles from different locations within Basse. Police are actively working to trace and recover the motorcycles and to identify any other persons connected to the crimes.

Both suspects are currently in Police custody, assisting with ongoing investigations. The Gambia Police Force reassures the public of its firm commitment to combating crime and urges continued cooperation from communities by promptly reporting suspicious activities.
