Two men accused of attempting to steal cattle in Bakau have been remanded at Mile II after appearing before the Kanifing Magistrates’ Court on Monday.
Kabir Babu and Babucarr Mangan were brought before Principal Magistrate Sallah M’bai on two counts conspiracy to commit a felony and attempted felony both contrary to the Criminal Offences Act, Revised Laws of The Gambia 2025. The two appeared unrepresented, while Inspector Cherno Baba Jallow announced his appearance for the Inspector General of Police.
According to the charge sheet, the men allegedly conspired on 12 November 2025 at Bakau Newtown to steal cattle with the intention of selling them. Prosecutors further alleged that on the same day, the pair used a motor vehicle, registration number BJL 0670 X, in their attempt to carry out the theft, knowing the cattle were not theirs.
When the charges were read out, both accused persons admitted guilt on each count.
Inspector Jallow requested an adjournment to allow the prosecution to secure the vehicle allegedly used in the incident and tender it as evidence, in addition to presenting the full facts of the case at the next hearing.
Magistrate M’bai granted the application and ordered that Babu and Mangan be remanded at Mile II Central Prison until the case resumes.
The matter has been adjourned to 10 December 2025 for the prosecution to present its facts.
