National Unity Party (NUP) leader H.E. Dr Lamin J. Darbo has outlined his party’s vision and policy direction as preparations intensify for the 2026 presidential elections.
He made the remarks during a press conference held at Sarge Hotel, where he addressed party officials, supporters and the media.
Dr Darbo described the event as “the opening salvos of Election 2026,” saying the occasion offered the NUP a chance to reaffirm its mission, values and long-term national plans.
Dr Darbo emphasised that The Gambia’s future must be built on respect for the rule of law and equal access to justice, noting that no society can flourish where lawlessness prevails.
He added that the party’s national plan includes creating an environment that attracts credible investment, protects public resources and ensures that leadership is understood as a duty of service rather than an avenue for enrichment.
Good governance, he said, remains the backbone of meaningful national development.
Dr Darbo urged Gambians to support the NUP’s agenda for a more open, transparent and humane country, stressing that the party offers a clear and realistic roadmap for national progress.
“If the fate of stagnancy is too harsh to contemplate, I urge you to join the NUP and play your role in the emancipation of The Gambia,” he said.
