Barrow Slams Busumbala NAM for “Abandoning” Constituents

By Kemo Kanyi

President Adama Barrow has criticised the National Assembly Member for Busumbala, Muhammad Kanteh, accusing him of neglecting the concerns of the people he represents.

Addressing a meeting in Busumbala on Monday as part of his annual Meet-the-People-Tour, the President said the NAM’s absence from the gathering was evidence of what he described as Mr. Kanteh’s disregard for the constituency’s mounting challenges.

“But now, where is your National Assembly Member for Busumbala Constituency?” Barrow asked the crowd. “He will not attend this meeting. This is the platform for you to raise your concerns. He (NAM Kanteh) should mention these issues of roads in Busumbala here so that the government can take them up with him and work together to address them. Where is he?”

Barrow went on to characterise the Busumbala representative as “unprogressive,” accusing him of failing to address local problems while also standing in the way of others who may wish to help.

“He can’t bring anything for them and doesn’t want other people to bring anything for the people of Busumbala Constituency,” the president remarked, adding that such matters require careful handling.

The President assured residents that his government intends to shift its focus toward the concerns of ordinary Gambians rather than the actions of opposition politicians. He said the current trend “must change” if the government is to serve the public more effectively.

Barrow also expressed concern about the conditions at the Old Yundum Market, saying he feels sympathy every time he passes through the area. He announced plans to construct a more dignified and safer market space for the women who trade there, arguing that their current environment is unacceptable.
