Minister of Lands and Religious Affairs Hamat Bah has issued a stern warning that Gambian state security forces are ready to crush anyone who attempts to destabilise the country.
Speaking at a political rally, Mr Bah referenced the defunct Three Years Jotna movement as a cautionary example for those planning to harm the nation’s peace and stability.
He stressed that President Adama Barrow would not tolerate anyone hiding behind politics to advance disruptive or “dubious” tactics.
“If you aim to destabilize this country, the Gambian security forces will crush you,” he said. “Barrow will not sympathise with anyone bent on harming the peace and stability of the country.”
He reiterated his warning to make clear that anyone plotting unrest would face consequences. “I want to repeat here: those who aim or plan to destabilise this country, Gambians will never accept dictatorship anymore,” he added.
The minister also urged aspiring political leaders to follow democratic processes rather than shortcuts.
“I said it here and again I want to repeat it: if you want to be a president, don’t go by the window. Come through the normal door. You are free to form a political party and free to campaign,” he said.
