The Gambia Action Party (GAP) registers its profound disappointment regarding the recent public remarks attributed to Mr. Essa Mbay Faal, in which he questioned the proof of the existence of Allah. Such statements are not only insensitive to the religious beliefs of the overwhelming majority of Gambians, but they also risk undermining the values of respect, faith, and social harmony that bind our nation together.
GAP strongly condemns any utterance—direct or implied—that disrespects Islam or challenges the core principles of our religious community. While we uphold freedom of expression, we equally believe that public figures carry the responsibility to speak with wisdom, humility, and respect for the cultural and spiritual identity of our people.
We therefore call on Mr. Faal to show greater sensitivity and awareness when addressing matters of faith. The Gambia is a God-fearing nation, and no political, legal, or intellectual argument should ever be allowed to trivialize the beliefs that guide our citizens’ lives.
GAP remains committed to protecting the dignity of Islam, defending our national values, and promoting responsible leadership grounded in respect and moral integrity.
