President Adama Barrow has described his annual nationwide tour as “successful,” saying Gambians have shown strong appreciation for the government’s development achievements over the past eight years.
Speaking to reporters upon his return from the first leg of the tour, Barrow said turnout was high and public engagement remained positive throughout, with citizens expressing satisfaction over progress in key sectors, particularly infrastructure and energy.
Highlighting the administration’s achievements, the president said decentralisation has been a central focus.
“Real decentralisation is now happening,” he said, acknowledging that local councils still face challenges but insisting that progress is evident and public expectations remain high.
Road construction emerged as a major concern during the tour, particularly in communities historically neglected. Barrow announced that the government is preparing to launch a new phase of road development, including a 500-metre project expected to begin soon.
Electricity expansion also featured prominently in the president’s assessment.
He said the government has completed 75 percent of the national electrification programme and aims to connect 90 percent of Gambian households to the grid by the end of 2026.
