President Barrow Challenges Mamud Fana VDC Chairman’s Sincerity

By Kemo Kanyi

During the meeting held in Mamud Fana, Niamina Dankunku, President Adama Barrow challenged the Chairman of Mamud Fana Village Development Committee (VDC) to speak about the realities on the ground, citing that it would support government technicians in formulating development policies.

Responding to a claim made by the Village Development Committee (VDC) chairman, Alagie Samba Mbaye, who reminded President Barrow of his earlier assertions that the presence of opposition representatives has long hindered Niamina’s development. The chairman stated that the people of Niamina overwhelmingly voted for the ruling party candidates in all the past electoral positions. He, therefore, pointed out that the residents of Niamina expect to be fully included in the government’s development agenda.

Chairman Mbye stressed that after they had been neglected by the past two regimes, Niamina continues to endure a lack of a major hospital, expressing hope that the current administration will solve this issue. He added that the area needs electricity expansion and further stated that the farmers in the area received fertiliser lately, and it was not enough for farmers in the past rainy season, urging the government to address these critical concerns.

Dismissing some of these claims, the president urged that speakers should be considerate and sincere in making demands. He stated that his government has improved the well-being of Niamina residents within his nine-year governance through electricity expansion, improved healthcare facilities, and road connectivity.

“Someone mentioned the issue of fertiliser here. As of now, we are, in fact, having extra fertiliser in store for farmers, and that’s always been the trend for my government in the past years, and before it gets finished, there will be another supply. If a farmer said he doesn’t have access to our fertiliser, this is seemingly a dream to me. It’s indeed a dream. What we want is that whoever is given the platform to speak should be truthful,” the President urged.

President Barrow added that it’s clear that some speakers came on the platform and clarified some of these claims, stating that sincerity in claims in this vital tour helps him, government technicians, and the country to address issues. He urges speakers to mention what the reality actually is.

“If you tell us the truth, it improves our understanding of issues, encourages our cause, and helps us in planning to see what citizens need so that it can be addressed,” he pointed out.

He assured his government’s commitment to transforming the livelihoods of all citizens across the country.
