The Unite Movement for Change (UMC) has hit back at Information Minister Dr Ismaila Ceesay, accusing him of “attacking young leaders” following his recent remarks about Kanifing Mayor Talib Ahmed Bensouda.
UMC spokesperson Kemo Bojang described Dr Ceesay’s comments as “misleading” and reflective of “a deep discomfort with the growing competence and popularity of youthful leadership in The Gambia.”
Bojang said Mayor Bensouda’s record “speaks for itself,” highlighting his achievements in digital revenue systems, waste management reforms, and infrastructure development.
“Under his leadership, the Kanifing Municipal Council has introduced modern digital revenue systems, improved waste management through new collection centres, expanded community infrastructure, and established credible international partnerships with the EU, ECOWAS, and global city networks,” Bojang stated.
