The newly established Banjul International Convention Centre (BICC) Ltd, led by its Board Chairman, on Tuesday, October 14, 2025, paid a courtesy visit to the Ministry of Tourism, Arts and Culture at Quadrangle, Banjul.

The visit aimed to formally introduce BICC, outline its role and mandate, and explore areas of cooperation and collaboration with the ministry.

The Banjul International Convention Centre Ltd serves as a premier event management and hospitality service provider, overseeing operations at the state-of-the-art Sir Dawda Kairaba Jawara International Conference Centre (SDKJ-ICC) and the VIP Lounge at the Banjul International Airport. Its establishment forms part of the government’s vision to position The Gambia as a leading Meetings, Incentives, Conferences and Exhibitions (MICE) destination in the sub-region.

During the engagement, discussions focused on BICC’s strategic positioning and possible collaborations to support the country’s tourism and hospitality drive.

BICC Chief Executive Officer, Ambassador Yankuba Dibba, described the ministry as “one of our very first natural partners.”

“We are delighted to meet you as our first host ministry to explain ourselves and solicit your cooperation in promoting The Gambia as a destination for meetings, investments, cultural exchanges, and any activity that elevates our country’s global standing,” he emphasized.

Ndey Kumba Demba, BICC’s Manager of Communications and Marketing, delivered a presentation on the Centre’s facilities and services, highlighting that the SDKJ-ICC features a plenary hall for 1,013 delegates, two banquet halls with capacities of 250 and 500, four thematic rooms accommodating up to 200 participants each, and multiple press, bilateral, and translation facilities.

She added that the Centre maintains on-site emergency medical services and partnerships with nearby hospitals, including the RVTH, for efficient health response during major events.

In response, Mrs. Amie Njie Joof, Permanent Secretary at the Ministry of Tourism, Arts and Culture, commended BICC’s initiative and reaffirmed the Ministry’s commitment to collaboration.

“The tourism sector has huge potential to support government revenue generation,” she said. “Government recognizes its role in providing the necessary infrastructure and policy framework, which is why the BICC was established—to enhance our capacity and promote The Gambia as a conference and investment destination.”

Mrs. Joof assured BICC of the Ministry’s full partnership, describing the institution as a catalyst with far-reaching impact across multiple sectors.

“We see the importance of this institution and want to fully embrace it,” she added.
