Supreme Court to Hear Modou Ceesay’s Lawsuit Against IGP and the State Today

By Alieu Jallow

The Supreme Court of The Gambia will today, Tuesday , 14th October, begin hearing the lawsuit filed by former Auditor General Modou Ceesay against the Inspector General of Police and the State. The session is scheduled from 12:00 to 13:00 GMT and will be presided over by Chief Justice Hassan B. Jallow.

Mr. Ceesay was forcefully removed from office after rejecting an appointment as Minister of Trade, Employment, and Regional Integration, which was offered to him during a cabinet reshuffle. The following day, he formally declined the position in writing, stating that he had not been consulted beforehand.

In a press release, the Ministry of Information and Broadcasting Services claimed there was an agreement by Mr. Ceesay to accept the ministerial role, though no written evidence was provided to support this. On Thursday, September 11th, the Auditor General reaffirmed his decision to remain in his position. His refusal led to his forceful removal from office and the subsequent appointment of his deputy, Mr. Cherno Amadou Sowe, as the new Auditor General.
