By: Kemo Kanyi

The President of the Gambia Football Federation (GFF), Mr. Lamin Kaba Bajo, on Friday, 26 September 2025, presided over the closing ceremony of the FIFA/GFF Referees Assessors Course at the National Technical Training Centre (NTTC) in Old Yundum.

The five-day program brought together 29 participants from all seven regions of the country, aiming to enhance their understanding of the roles and responsibilities of referee assessors in guiding match officials.

In his closing remarks, President Bajo expressed profound gratitude to FIFA and CAF for their continued support of GFF initiatives, and specifically thanked the course director, Gladys Lengwe of Zambia, for her expertise and dedication. He reaffirmed the federation’s commitment to improving the technical knowledge of football officials in The Gambia, particularly referees and referee assessors, noting that the skills acquired during the course would be fully applied in the forthcoming league season.

“Under my leadership, the GFF remains committed to developing the capacity of technicians in Gambian football. I congratulate all participants for their cooperation throughout this program,” Mr. Bajo said.

Local instructor Dikory Jawo commended the GFF and President Bajo for prioritizing referee development and praised the course director for her patience and engagement with the participants.

Representing the participants, Alhagie Sanneh thanked the GFF for the initiative, congratulated his colleagues on completing the course, and encouraged them to apply the knowledge gained positively during their refereeing and assessor duties.

The course is part of the GFF’s broader efforts to strengthen officiating standards across Gambian football, ensuring that referees and assessors are equipped with the latest skills and knowledge to support fair play in domestic competitions.
