UDP Reaffirms Zero Tolerance for Tribalism and Divisive Politics By: Isatou Sarr

By Kemo Kanyi

The United Democratic Party (UDP) has reaffirmed its stance against tribalism, ethnic discrimination, and divisive politics.

In a statement issued on Thursday, the party stressed that the country’s ethnic diversity should be seen as a source of strength rather than a tool for political provocation. “The Gambia deserves better than to be torn apart by rhetoric designed to divide us. For decades, Gambians of every background have lived side by side in peace, and the UDP is committed to protecting that harmony,” the release noted.

The party further distanced itself from all forms of ethnic or tribal politics, whether emanating from its members, supporters, or others, describing such actions as contrary to national unity and the aspirations of the Gambian people.

“Our greater mission is clear: ending the corrupt administration of Adama Barrow, which has become a barrier to the progress and dignity of our people. We cannot afford to be distracted by tribal rhetoric or divisive politics when the future of our nation is at stake,” the statement highlighted.

The UDP called on members, supporters, and citizens to embrace diversity, foster unity, and engage in constructive dialogue for the common good. It emphasizes that diversity is “a blessing and a precious asset that must be honoured and protected.”

The statement concluded with a renewed commitment to harmony, unity, and progress, stressing that only through collective purpose can Gambians overcome challenges and build a nation that reflects shared values, heritage, and aspirations.
