GRA Strengthens Capacity on Transfer Pricing to Boost Revenue

By Haddy Touray

The Gambia Revenue Authority (GRA) has intensified efforts to enhance the knowledge and skills of its staff and taxpayers through specialized training on transfer pricing, a key area in modern taxation. The initiative underscores GRA’s commitment to strengthening revenue collection and promoting compliance in a rapidly globalizing economy.

The training, organized in collaboration with the African Tax Administration Forum (ATAF), brought together various taxpayers and stakeholders to deepen their understanding of transfer pricing principles, practical applications, and enforcement strategies.

Addressing participants, Commissioner General Yankuba Darboe emphasized the significance of transfer pricing in protecting the nation’s tax base. “While The Gambia may not host a large number of multinational corporations, the growth of cross-border trade and investment makes transfer pricing increasingly relevant,” he said. He further noted that mismanagement in this area could lead to revenue loss, profit shifting, and erosion of the domestic tax base.

CG Darboe highlighted that the training equips participants with the knowledge and tools needed to identify, analyze, and mitigate transfer pricing risks effectively. He encouraged all attendees to engage actively, share experiences, and apply the principles learned in their daily operations.

He also expressed gratitude to ATAF for its continued technical support, describing it as a vital partnership that strengthens the capacity of African tax administrations, including GRA. “This collaboration is not just a partnership; it is an investment in our revenue mobilization drive,” Darboe said.

The Commissioner General reiterated that capacity building remains central to GRA’s strategy, aiming to ensure fairness in revenue collection while aligning with national and international standards. He urged participants to translate their learning into tangible results, reinforcing GRA’s mission of building a modern, efficient, and responsive tax administration.

The training reflects GRA’s proactive approach in keeping pace with complex global tax requirements and highlights the authority’s dedication to equipping its workforce and taxpayers with the expertise required for sustainable economic growth.
