Activista Promotes Gender-Inclusive Reforms in District Tribunals

 

Activista’s training session in Basse focused on advancing gender-inclusive reforms within district tribunals, key stakeholder, including the chief and his tribunal members came together to discuss and propose meaningful changes.

According the organisation  The discussions highlighted the urgent need to reshape policies and structures to ensure fair representation and opportunities for women within the justice system.
As a result, the participants put forward the following recommendations:
Inclusion of Women in decision-making processes within district tribunals
Review of the Governor’s Position within the district tribunals. They argued that, this is a colonial law, meant for chiefs to report to traveling commissioners, hence the system was purely the indirect rule system.
Women’s Ownership & Control over assets and resources, especially land
Review & Amendment of the DT Act to reflect gender equity and adjust to the current realities
Enforcement of Girls’ Education to empower future generations
Implementation of a Quota System to guarantee balanced representation
These recommendations aim to create a more just and equitable system where women’s voices are heard and their rights are upheld.
