Hon. Minister Fatou Kinteh Launches Project to Combat Gender-Based Violence and Promote Reproductive Health
The Honourable Minister of Gender, Children, and Social Welfare, Fatou Kinteh, officially launched a new initiative aimed at accelerating the prevention and elimination of gender-based violence (GBV) and promoting reproductive health in Senegal and The Gambia. The launch took place at the Sir Dawda Kairaba Jawara International Conference Centre in Bijilo, today February 12, 2025
The project, titled ‘Accelerating the Prevention and Elimination of Gender-Based Violence and the Promotion of Reproductive Health in Senegal and The Gambia (2024-2026)’
Hon. Minister Kinteh reaffirmed the Gambian government’s dedication to safeguarding the well-being of its citizens under the leadership of President Adama Barrow. She emphasised that this initiative marks a transformative milestone in the country’s ongoing efforts to combat gender-based violence and enhance reproductive health services.
“This transformative initiative, generously funded by the Italian Cooperation, represents a pivotal moment in our ongoing efforts to safeguard the rights, health, and dignity of women and girls across The Gambia and Senegal,” Minister Kinteh stated during her address.
The launch event brought together government officials, civil society organizations, international partners, and stakeholders committed to advancing gender equality and improving access to essential health services. The initiative will focus on strengthening legal frameworks, enhancing support services for survivors of GBV, and increasing awareness and education on reproductive health.
The Gambian government, along with its international and regional partners, continues to work towards a future where gender equality and reproductive rights are fully realised, ensuring a healthier and more just society for all.
