Speaker of National Assembly Lauds Foni Agency for Rural Development (FARD) for Promoting Free Healthcare and Sporting Excellence

The Speaker of the National Assembly, Hon. Fabakary Tombong Jatta (FTJ), has commended the executive members of the Foni Association for Rural Development (FARD) for their outstanding contribution to the well-being of the community. The praise came after FARD organized a free healthcare initiative for the public during its annual festival held in Sibanor Village, located in the Foni Bintang Karanai District.

Hon. Jatta acknowledged the vital role FARD continues to play in enhancing community health and development, emphasizing the importance of initiatives that uplift rural populations. “Providing free healthcare during such a grand event demonstrates FARD’s commitment to addressing the needs of the community,” the Speaker stated.

The festival also showcased cultural pride and sporting excellence, highlighted by the wrestling competition, a hallmark of Gambian tradition. In the senior category of the Dr. Abubacar Jawara Combat, Papa Sowe emerged victorious, defeating Pettit Bala to claim the championship title.

The intermediate category was no less thrilling, with Ritrigo securing victory in a tightly contested match. The wrestling competition added excitement to the festivities and was proudly sponsored by the Honorable Minister of Youths and Sports, Mr. Bakary Y. Badjie.

Hon. Badjie’s support of the event underscores his ministry’s dedication to promoting grassroots sports and cultural heritage. Wrestling, being a beloved traditional sport, continues to unite communities and foster talent at all levels.

As the FARD Festival 2025 concluded, the organization received widespread applause for its impactful contributions to healthcare and sports. The festival served as a reminder of the power of unity, cultural pride, and collective action in advancing rural development.

The community looks forward to future FARD initiatives, which promise to continue empowering individuals and fostering a sense of belonging in Foni and beyond.
