Brikama resident blames the lack of street lights for frequent accidents

By Modou Touray
Lack of street lights is a major factor responsible for frequent road accidents, according to Brikama residents.
In a random interview, residents who reside around the highways said the lack of lights makes it difficult for motorists to see pedestrians who may be using the road at night.
Their concerns were raised following two gruesome accidents where two people on bicycles were hit by motorists.
“ Visibility of those on foot has proven to be a challenge several times as there have been so many accidents on these roads. Some motorists who use this road also do not stick to the speed limit or take those on foot into regard,” Ida Njie said.
The residents urged the Brikama Area Council to provide street lights on highways around the town
” The main Nyambai- Brikama market road is a hotspot for accidents and so many cars knocked each other there.

Motorists are however urged to be cautious and vigilant when driving

Many town residents suggested that the government should put streetlight on the main highways while the Brikama Area Council deals with roads within the town.

” The council also has a responsible, people cannot blame the central government” Lamin Joof said.

During the early days of the former President Jammeh regime, streetlights were installed along the Brikama Market highway which are no more visible.
