Transport Ministry Warns Against Disrupting Cross-Border Vehicular Movement

The Ministry of Transport, Works and Infrastructure has issued a strong warning to individuals or groups attempting to disrupt vehicular movement between The Gambia and neighbouring ECOWAS countries.

In a press release dated Sunday, 19th October 2025, the Ministry urged the general public to disregard an inciting audio circulating on social media from a group calling itself ‘Justice for All.’ The audio reportedly calls on drivers to forcibly stop commercial vehicles from neighbouring countries from entering The Gambia starting Monday, 20th October.

According to the statement, the so-called ‘Justice for All’ group is neither a registered transport union nor recognized by any legitimate stakeholders within the transport sector.

“The Government of The Gambia is already in direct discussions with the main transport union in the country, whose concerns are being addressed,” the Ministry stated. “The discussions with the General Transport Union have progressed significantly, and a working group has already been set up to implement actionable measures aimed at improving the welfare of commercial drivers nationwide.”

The Ministry further cautioned individuals or groups without a proper mandate against any form of incitement or interference in cross-border transport operations.

“Such unlawful acts are unacceptable,” the statement warned. “Those involved in these activities are strongly advised to cease their actions immediately.”

The Ministry reaffirmed its commitment to maintaining peaceful and lawful transport operations in line with ECOWAS protocols governing the free movement of persons, goods, and services across member states.
