Summer Tree Planting Exercise: A Step Towards Climate Change Adaptation

In a proactive move to promote climate change adaptation, the Local Rights Program 8 (LRP8) in Niamina East, Central River Region South, organized a tree planting exercise at Jafai Kuta Lower Basic School. This initiative is part of LRP8’s annual “One Child One Tree Campaign,” aimed at encouraging environmental stewardship among students in its intervention communities.

During the event, pupils, joined by their parents, planted a total of 100 trees within the school grounds. The species included 50 Gmelina trees, 30 Cashew trees, and 20 Mango trees. Each tree was named after a child, who will be responsible for its care with the support of the school administration and the community.

This tree-planting exercise is designed to educate students about the life cycle of trees, the importance of biodiversity, and the interdependence of ecosystems. By engaging in these activities, students are expected to develop a deeper understanding of environmental stewardship and cultivate a lifelong commitment to preserving and protecting nature.

The “One Child One Tree Campaign” reflects a significant step towards fostering a sense of responsibility and connection to the environment among young learners, ensuring that they grow up with a strong commitment to combating climate change and promoting sustainable practices.
