Senegalese Prime Minister Ousmane Sonko has reaffirmed both his political ambitions and the relaunch of PASTEF’s nationwide operations, telling supporters that “no one can stop me from being a candidate in the next elections, whatever the type of election, the decision is mine.”

Speaking during Senegal’s Martyrs’ Day commemoration, an annual event honouring protesters killed during past political unrest, he said PASTEF will formally resume its activities with a party congress in April, renewed national tours and mobilisation led by departmental structures.

Sonko added that the new phase will begin in Guinguinéo, a town in central Senegal, explaining that “we will start with him, in Guinguinéo,” referring to deputy Ismaela Diallo’s invitation to host the opening event.

He also outlined PASTEF’s broader objectives, including reaching one million members by 2026 and creating ten thousand citizen cells across the country, which the party describes as spaces for democratic vigilance and community engagement.
