By: Mam Jarra Ndow

The National Assembly Member for Serrekunda West, Hon. Madi MK Ceesay, on Wednesday, October 29, 2025, launched his second major book project at the Kanifing Municipal Library, unveiling three new titles that reflect his lifelong passion for journalism, politics, and leadership.

In his opening remarks, Hon. Ceesay expressed gratitude to all attendees, including veteran politicians and journalists such as Hon. Sedia Jatta and former GPU president Demba Ali Jawo, who handed over the union’s leadership to him in 2004.

He thanked the audience for their support, saying the event’s success was made possible by their presence.

Hon. Ceesay recalled his first book launch in February 2005 and said his passion for writing has only grown stronger over the years.

“Since then, ideas kept coming, and I couldn’t help but continue writing more and more books,” he told the gathering.

The latest launch featured three titles: The Fundamentals of Journalism, The Betrayals, and The Biography of Talib Ahmed Bensouda.

Representing GPU president Alieu Ceesay, a journalist from QTV, and a GPU board member praised Hon. Ceesay for his consistency and contribution to media development.

“Seeing him write and publish three books while serving in Parliament shows pure passion,” he said, adding that Hon. Ceesay continues to inspire young journalists across the country.

The first book, The Fundamentals of Journalism, was launched by veteran journalist Mr. Kebba Ansu Manneh, known for mentoring young reporters. He described the publication as “a torch-bearer from colonial shadows to democratic dawns,” saying, “Journalism is the oxygen of democracy, and Hon. Madi MK Ceesay deserves to be celebrated.”

Former Information Minister and journalist Demba Ali Jawo launched “The Betrayals”. He commended Hon. Ceesay for his transformation from journalist to author and reflected on their shared struggles during the Yahya Jammeh regime, including when Ceesay was charged with murder and later acquitted.

Jawo said the book captures the essence of political deception and urged Gambians to read it.

The third book, “The Biography of Talib Ahmed Bensouda”, was introduced by Mayor Bensouda himself. He congratulated Hon. Ceesay and said the book captured his life journey with striking accuracy.

“I read it all night and smiled at how well Madi documented my story,” he said.

The official launch of the biography was performed by Councilor Nene Gomez of KMC, who praised Mayor Bensouda’s achievements, including his waste management initiatives, library projects, and dedication to public service.

The event’s overall launcher, Hon. Sedia Jatta, lauded Hon. Ceesay’s dedication to literature, journalism, and public service, describing him as “a man of integrity and commitment whose work continues to inspire generations.”

The ceremony concluded with resounding applause as guests celebrated Hon. Madi MK Ceesay’s continued contribution to knowledge and democracy through writing.
