Regional Consultations Conclude on The Gambia’s First National Land Policy

The Ministry of Lands and Regional Government, in collaboration with the World Bank, has just concluded a significant milestone in the formulation of The Gambia’s first National Land Policy. Over the past four days, intensive regional consultations have taken place, bringing together diverse participants to discuss and address the pressing land issues facing the country.

The consultations, held across various regions, have been marked by robust and insightful discussions. Participants from different backgrounds and sectors shared their perspectives and concerns, contributing to a comprehensive understanding of the land problems in The Gambia.

In the coming days, the consultation team will visit the remaining regions to ensure that all voices are heard and all regions are represented. Following these consultations, a first draft of the National Land Policy will be prepared. The team will then create a checklist to return to the regions and assess whether the issues raised have been adequately considered in the draft policy.

The National Land Policy aims to address all land-related challenges in The Gambia, providing a framework for sustainable land management and equitable land distribution. This initiative is crucial for the country’s development, ensuring that land resources are used effectively and fairly.

Funded by the World Bank and led by the Ministry of Lands and Regional Government, this project underscores the commitment to tackling land issues head-on and creating a policy that reflects the needs and aspirations of all Gambians.

As the process continues, stakeholders are encouraged to remain engaged and contribute to the development of a policy that will have far-reaching impacts on The Gambia’s land management and development.
