President Adama Barrow has called on residents of Sanunding Village, Tumana, to acknowledge the government’s development efforts in the area before outlining their demands.
During a public engagement in Sanunding, local leaders and youth representatives presented a list of requests, including improved road networks, expanded electricity coverage, enhanced security, and better-equipped fire and rescue services.
Alhagie Sellou Drammeh, the Alkalo (Village head) of Sanunding, said the community has repeatedly written to the president about the poor state of the roads and highlighted the difficulties faced by residents, especially women and patients trying to access health facilities. “Our women find it very difficult to reach health facilities. Some sick individuals died on the way due to bad roads connecting us from the highway. We also humbly request electricity expansion to reach all communities,” he said.
Sulayman Touray, speaking for the youth, called for strengthened security measures, including better equipment, accommodation, and mobility for the police at Fatoto Police Station, and modernized firefighting equipment for the Fire and Rescue Services.
Responding, President Barrow emphasizes that while he values the community’s concerns, the government’s achievements in the area should first be recognised. He listed several projects already implemented, including electricity expansion, drilling of boreholes, construction of roads, and the building of a large school with 18 classrooms, 15 toilets, and 10 accommodation houses for teachers.
“Speakers stood here and only made demands but failed to acknowledge my achievements in this area. Development is progressive. Even Sanunding has benefited from projects I have delivered over the years. I expect to hear this acknowledgment from you,” the president remarked.
He called for patience among residents, stressing that his administration is committed to serving taxpayers and addressing community needs. He also dismissed criticisms from opposition figures, noting that he listens closely to requests from the electorate while remaining undistracted by unfounded accusations.
President Barrow reiterated that progress takes time and called on communities to celebrate the milestones already achieved, even as further improvements are planned.
