PRP accuses Bauchi govt of leading in debt, mismanagement

The Bauchi State chapter of the Peoples Redemption Party (PRP), has accused the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) administration of Gov. Bala Mohammed of leading in debts, lack of progress and mismanagement of state funds

In a statement issued on Wednesday by the PRP State Secretary, Wada Abdullahi, the opposition party called on citizens of the state to “wake up to the grim reality facilitated by the Mohammed-led administration and his accomplices in the PDP which has plunged the state into humongous debts.

The statement titled ‘Bauchi State: Leading in Debt, Lagging in Progress – A Reflection of PDP’s Mismanagement,” reads:

“The Peoples Redemption Party (PRP), Bauchi State Chapter, calls on the citizens of Bauchi to wake up to the grim reality facilitated by the Bala Mohammed-led administration and his accomplices in the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).

“According to the latest report released by the Debt Management Office (DMO), Bauchi State now tops the charts as the state with the highest domestic liabilities in Northern Nigeria, with a staggering debt of N145.2 billion. This shocking figure serves as a cruel reminder of the disgraceful governance that has plagued our state.

“As we lament our position as leaders in debt, we must also confront the harsh truth that our state occupies one of the lowest positions in terms of development and betterment of its citizens.

“In an era where the development indices should reflect prudent management of state resources, we find ourselves languishing in ruins, felt most acutely by the average citizen, the severity of the situation is compounded by deteriorating infrastructures, crumbling educational facilities, and inadequately funded healthcare services.

“What have these monumental debts brought to the people of Bauchi? The answer is as infuriating as it is alarming.

“While the coffers have been drained into a bottomless pit of mismanagement—a pit primarily filled with the personal and selfish interests of those in power—basic services remain woefully inadequate.

“Instead of investing in the welfare of the people, the administration has squandered public funds on frivolities like renovating government houses and purchasing luxury vehicles for the self-serving elites.

It is disheartening that, amidst our state’s dire need for electricity, functional hospitals, properly maintained roads, employment opportunities for our teeming youth, and poverty alleviating initiatives, our governance has prioritized extravagant spending on unnecessary items.

“The billions wasted on non-essential travels, security votes for non-existent threats, and bloated salaries for political appointees only illustrate the crass abandonment of duty by the current government.

“We stand in shock as the citizens of Bauchi State are subjected to blatant misuse of public funds while their livelihoods deteriorate and their basic needs are disregarded. It is a blatant betrayal that must not be tolerated.

“The people of Bauchi deserve better than an administration that continually chooses to mortgage their future for personal gain while neglecting the essential services that contribute to human dignity and quality of life.

“As Bala Mohammed and the PDP continue to lead us into uncharted territories of debt and despair, the PRP calls upon the citizens to hold them accountable.

“It is high time we reject this cycle of misgovernance and demand transparency and accountability in the management of our collective resources.

“Our state’s future must not be mortgaged for the greed of a few. The time has come for true redemption—let us reclaim our state from the clutches of rogue governance!”
