President Adama Barrow has said the National People’s Party (NPP) represents a source of hope, guidance, and inspiration for national development and unity.
The President made this declaration as his party welcomes 804 defectors from various opposition parties, including the UDP, GDC, and APP-Sobeyaa, amongst others at the party headquarters in Bundung on Wednesday. He described the event as historic and praised the defectors for choosing the bright side of Gambian politics.
“Today you have abandoned the shades of darkness and now embrace the brightness. This means we are heading in the same direction with you and shared the same vision. Gambians entrusted the future of the country to this party. It is the hope for a better Gambia. We will not relent in our efforts to develop The Gambia,” he emphasized.
He tasked his party supporters to broaden their arms and do more mobilization to increase membership of the party, stressing that the NPP symbolises equality and a true representation of unity. He advised against division within the party, stating it is not useful to both the party and the country, pointing out that his party’s democratic governance and national development that have been achieved in the past five years are undisputable, even among NPP rivals.
Other speakers include Sukai Jallow and Fatoumata Barry, who spoke on behalf of the cross-carpeted people, said their reason to embrace NPP is rooted in the unprecedented development of the Barrow administration and the confidence they have in his leadership foresight. They assured their unwavering commitment and support to the president in his bid to retain the presidency.
