The Ogun State police command has confirmed the killing of a councillorship candidate in the state, Adeleke Adeyinka.
The 40-year-old was the All Progressives Congress (APC) councillorship candidate for Abeokuta South local government area in the November 16 elections in the state.
He was also a member of the National Union of Road Transport Workers (NURTW) in the Panseke area of Abeokuta before his death.
The spokesperson for the state police command, Omolola Odutola, disclosed this in a statement issued in Abeokuta on Saturday.
She said the incident occurred at 12:30 p.m. at Jide Jones area Oke Ilewo in Abeokuta.
Odutola said: “A shooting incident and murder occurred around 12:30 p.m.
”A concerned citizen reported that unknown individuals, believed to be cultists arrived in a Toyota Corolla sport car, armed with a pump action shotgun and a pistol
“The assailants opened fire and shot the deceased who was left dead at the scene before the perpetrators fled to an unknown location.
” Another individual, Adesanya Adeyinka requested for the body for burial without seeking a doctor’s examination or autopsy.”
She said an investigation into the incident had commenced and assured members of the public that efforts were ongoing to arrest the fleeing suspects.
