PIU Shooting Case Resumes With Presentation of Audio Interview

By: Nicholas Bass

Defense lawyers representing Ousainou Bojang Thursday presented to the court an audio interview between Mama Jabbie and the accused person.

Ousainou Bojang is accused of shooting two police officers to death, leaving the third injured, charges he continues to deny.

Testifying before Justice Ebrima Jaiteh of the Banjul High Court, the twelfth defense witness (DW12), Ebrima Charty, a clerk of Dabanani Chambers, told the court how he downloaded the interview between Jabbie and Ousainou from the official online YouTube channel of Kerr Fatou.

DW12, Charty told the court that he used his laptop in searching for the interview between PW3, Jabbie, and the accused, Ousainou, on the official channel of Kerr Fatou. He then decided to download it on his laptop.

He explained that after downloading it he later converted the footage into an audio recording.

Still testifying, DW12, Chary stated that he transferred the interview of Jabbie and Ousainou into a USB flash drive, noting that he handed the same USB flash drive to his boss.

However, when the court ordered the USB flash drive that contained the audio interview between PW3, Jabbie, to be played in court for identification, its voice was not loud enough to be heard by the court.

At that point, defense lawyer Jeng then sought from the court to have another USB flash drive that contains the same content inserted into the court’s computer and played for her witness to identify it.

The Director of Public Prosecution (DPP), AM Yusuf, objected to the defense’s line of submission.

DPP Yusuf said that the witness mentioned transferring the interview of Jabbie and Ousainou into one USB flash drive.

The presiding Judge overruled the objection raised by DPP Yusuf and ordered defense lawyer Jeng to proceed.

At that stage, the court ordered that another USB flash containing the interview of PW3, Jabbie, and Ousainou be played in court.

Consequently, Justice Jaiteh ordered the transcription of the Mandinka audio interview between Jabbie and Ousainou into English.
