Edo State Governor, Monday Okpebholo, has recounted a remarkable experience following the September 21, 2024, governorship election, claiming to have found a dead bat on his bed the morning after the highly-contested poll.
Okpebholo, who had been anxiously awaiting the election results, believes the discovery was a sign of divine intervention and said that it was God’s protection that helped him secure victory.
Speaking during a praise concert held in celebration of his inauguration and alongside his deputy, Dennis Idahosa, Okpebholo shared the story with a large gathering of worshippers, politicians, and prominent gospel musicians from across Nigeria.
The concert, which was part of the inauguration festivities, was a powerful display of faith, bringing together supporters and spiritual leaders to celebrate the newly-elected governor.

“I want to thank God,” Okpebholo began. “In this last election, while I was praising God, they (the enemies of democracy) were busy operating from Arise. They (the traducers) were busy operating from Facebook. They were busy operating from Channels.”
He emphasized that, despite the distractions and opposition he faced, his focus was on prayer and trusting in God. “But I took the battle to God, because I knew the secret. A few days before the election, they said this guy (Okpebholo) was crazy. We gathered to praise God in this state, and they said, ‘What was he doing?’ They were there at Arise, but I was listening to the voice of God. I won the battle.”
The governor then recalled the strange and unsettling moment that occurred the day after the election. “After the election, in the morning of Sunday, September 22, 2024, I came into my room. I met a bat that died on my bed, without me shooting any arrow, but the Spirit of God was there. The arrow of God settled it. The hand of God delivered me.”
Okpebholo took the opportunity to express his deep gratitude to those who supported him through prayer. “I am also grateful to the men of God that stood in the gap for me. I am grateful to those that believed that with God, all things are possible. I will give you one piece of advice: trust in God alone, because He will do it for you.”
The governor also revealed that, throughout his political career, including his 2023 senatorial campaigns and the recent gubernatorial race, he never sought help from any native doctors, prophets, or shrines. His sole reliance, he said, was on his faith in God.
