NPP Deputy Campaign Manager Abdoulie Charm Traces His Political Journey from Opposition to Presidency Support

By Michaella Faith Wright

Deputy Campaign Manager of the National People’s Party (NPP), Abdoulie Charm, has reflected on his political journey, recounting his early days in the opposition and his current trust-based appointment by President Adama Barrow.

Speaking on Coffee Time with Peter Gomez on Tuesday, September 23rd 2025, Charm said his political career began in 2015 when he joined the Gambia Democratic Congress (GDC), serving first as Deputy Administration Secretary and later as Propaganda Secretary.

“We campaigned rigorously to ensure we oust the former president Yahya Jammeh,” he said. “After the 2016 presidential election, I resigned, and during the three years Joina period, I was advocating for the president to continue for five years.”

Charm explained that his support for President Barrow deepened over time. “I continued with my political propaganda to support the agenda of the president until after 2021 when the party was formed. In 2023, the president appointed me as the national youth PRO of the party, which I served for a year before being appointed as Deputy Campaign Manager.”

He added that President Barrow’s confidence in him stems from his consistent dedication. “Basically, the president has trust and confidence in the work we are doing because most of our supporters both in the country and outside have seen our stance and the love we have for the party and the country.”

Charm also traced his political inspiration to his father’s long service at State House. “My father worked there for over three decades, and from a young age I was exposed to political movements. After 22 years of dictatorship, I felt it was important to join the opposition to help bring about democratic change,” he explained.

He concluded by reaffirming his loyalty to Barrow: “I believe in President Barrow’s vision. He is leaving a legacy for the young people of this party.”
