The newly appointed National Chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Ali Bukar Dalori, has pledged to lead the ruling party towards unity and electoral success, following his assumption of office on Monday, June 30.
Dalori, who previously served as the party’s Deputy National Chairman (North), outlined his vision in an interview with the BBC on Monday, where he emphasized reconciliation, internal harmony, and equitable leadership as his immediate priorities.
“I must stand up and show all APC politicians that I have done my utmost to reconcile those who have had problems with each other,” Dalori stated. “Politics needs people, and politics needs to take care of people.”
The new chairman acknowledged the internal divisions that have emerged across various levels of the party, from local governments to state chapters, and vowed to initiate a broad-based reconciliation process. He said these efforts would involve both personal engagement and the appointment of representatives to mediate and rebuild trust among aggrieved stakeholders.

Addressing speculation about the APC’s upcoming national convention, Dalori refrained from giving a specific timeline, noting that such decisions would be made collectively by senior party leadership.
“There are senior officials we need to consult with, who will give the order on whether the meeting will take place or not,” he said, indicating that party unity would take precedence over rushing procedural matters.
Dalori also responded to concerns about intra-party disputes, particularly those emanating from the North-East region, his political base. He described the tensions as inherited political issues that would be addressed through ongoing dialogue and inclusivity.
“Politics is tired of this. We are all one and the same, and we are still working with all of them,” he assured.
Commenting on the recent defections from opposition parties to the APC, Dalori attributed the shift to concerns among opposition politicians about their political viability. According to him, such defections reflect confidence in the APC’s platform and structure.
“They are scared. If they stay there, they won’t be able to pursue their ambitions, so they came to us to find a pathway,” he said.
Dalori dismissed attempts at opposition unity as inconsequential, asserting that the APC remains resilient and prepared to absorb political shocks.
“Well, I think the expected explosion will not happen because we have sewn it with strong thread that will not break,” he said confidently.
