Bakary Y. Badjie, The Gambia’s Minister of Youth and Sports, has been elected to serve on the UNESCO Fund Approval Committee for Anti-Doping in Sports.
Reacting to his election, Minister Badjie said he was deeply honoured to be entrusted with the role during the 10th Conference of Parties (COP 10) to the International Convention Against Doping in Sport.
He explained that the six-member committee is responsible for reviewing project proposals from countries, research bodies, and academic institutions, and for deciding on strategic initiatives to be funded under UNESCO’s anti-doping programs.
“My election to this two-year term allows me to contribute to global efforts that promote fair play, integrity, and clean sport values that The Gambia continues to champion on the international stage,” Minister Badjie said.
He added that he looks forward to working closely with colleagues from around the world to strengthen global anti-doping initiatives and advance educational programs that empower athletes and promote ethical sports practices.
The minister also extended appreciation to the staff of the Ministry of Youth and Sports and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, particularly The Gambia’s Ambassador in France and representatives at UNESCO, for their support and campaign efforts leading to what he described as “a proud achievement for The Gambia.”
