Messi to face PSG in Club W’Cup knockout as Inter Miami reach last 16

Lionel Messi will face his former club Paris Saint Germain after his Inter Miami side advanced to the knockout stages of the FIFA Club World Cup on Tuesday morning (Nigeria time).

Messi’s Inter Miami were almost finishing as the group winners in their final group game against Palmieras as they led 2-0 until the 80th minute when things turned around.

Tadeo Allende scored first in the 16th minute on a breakaway, and Luis Suarez followed suit in the second half with a solo goal of his own.

But Palmieras put up a fightback late in the game as they forced the game to end 2-2, advancing as group A winners in the stead of Inter Miami.

Messi and his teammates have now set up a battle with European champions PSG in the next round, while Palmieras will take on fellow Brazilian side Botafogo.

On Monday night, Paris Saint-Germain emerged from Group B along with Botafogo, as Atlético Madrid did not score the necessary goals to reach the knockout round.
