Modou Jallow, Tuesday appeared before Brikama Magistrates’ Court on burglary charges.
He was accused of breaking into a building with intent to commit a felony, contrary to Section 259 of the Criminal Offences Act 2025.
Appearing before Magistrate K.B. Sambou, Mr. Jallow, the accused denied the charges.
Corporal E. Fofana is the prosecution officer who stands in for the Inspector General of Police. He called Saikou Camara a resident of Gunjur to serve as prosecution witness.
Camara, the prosecution’s first witness (PW1), told the court that while at his residence in Gunjur during thunderstorm, he heard unusual noise coming from a shop in his compound. Investigating the disturbance, he saw a boy breaking the shop door. Before Camara could stop him, the accused had already broken the padlock. Camara then apprehended Jallow and took him to the Gunjur Police Station, where he gave his official statement.
During cross-examination, Jallow questioned Camara on several points. He asked if the witness saw him using any tools to break into the shop. Camara responded that it was too dark to confirm. Jallow also asked whether he had refused to stop when instructed. Camara maintained that Jallow insisted on continuing. The accused denied both claims, insisting he neither used any tools nor refused to comply. But Camara stood by his testimony.
Following the cross-examination, the prosecution requested that PW1 be discharged and applied for an adjournment to call the second witness (PW2). The magistrate granted the application, adjourning the matter to Friday, 23rd October 2025 for the testimony of PW2.
