Man in Court for Defilement of 17-Year-Old Girl

One Omar Jallow appeared on Monday 29th September before  Principal Magistrate, Anna O. Mendy ESQ of Brikama Magistrates’ Court on a charge of defilement.

He appeared on a single count of defilement of a girl between the ages of Sixteen (16) and Eighteen (18) years,” contrary to Section 5 of the Sexual Offences Act 2013 Laws of the Gambia.

Sgt 4422 M.L Sallah represent the Inspector General of Police, while the accused person was unrepresented.

According to the particulars of the offence, Omar Jallow on or between June 2025 and July 2025, at Gunjur Kunkujang, in the West Coast Region, had sexual intercourse with a 17-year-old girl name withheld and thereby committed an offence.

The charge sheet was read to the said accused person in English and interpreted in Mandinka the language he chose to understand and pleaded not guilty

The prosecuting officer M.J Sallah, applied for an adjournment for prosecution witness to come and testify in court.

The alleged victim was present and she was asked if she was pregnant and she responded “yes”.

The court was adjourned to 20th October 2025, for continuation of hearing and the accused was granted bail in the sum of D300,000.00 with 3 Gambian sureties, who shall deposit ID card or passport at the registrar of the court.
