Mai Fatty Says President Barrow Laid Foundation for Gambia’s Development

By Kemo Kanyi

Mai Ahmad Fatty, leader of the Gambia Moral Congress (GMC), says President Adama Barrow has laid the foundation for The Gambia’s modern development through stability, expanded infrastructure, and improved public services.

Speaking at a joint meeting for Wuli East and West in Baja Kunda, Fatty, a native of Wuli, said the peace and democratic environment under Barrow has become the backbone of the country’s progress. He argued that no nation can develop without stability, citing Sudan and Syria as examples of resource-rich countries held back by conflict.

“When Barrow took office, he made sure peace and stability were maintained,” Fatty said. “He expanded electricity, and that has been a game-changer. People now engage in welding, tailoring, and other self-employment activities because energy is accessible.”

He added that the President’s policies have strengthened healthcare delivery nationwide and improved livelihoods. Fatty also noted that road construction projects have helped reduce commodity prices in Wuli by easing transportation constraints.

Fatty accused the opposition of politicising Barrow’s achievements, insisting that despite paying taxes for decades, Wuli residents never enjoyed vital services until the current administration.

As spokesperson of the NPP-led Grand Alliance, he assured President Barrow that Wuli will deliver strong support for the NPP in the upcoming presidential election and urged residents to remain united behind the President.

In a veiled jab at an opposition figure he declined to name, Fatty referred to him as a “tall, old man whose head refused to grow hair,” dismissing the critic’s remarks on road projects as baseless and urging Gambians to ignore such commentary.
