Janneh Commission Staffer Details Role in Tractor and Vehicle Auctions

By Fatou Krubally

Ms. Fatou Drammeh, assistant secretary to the Janneh Commission, yesterday detailed her role in the management and oversight of government tractor and vehicle auctions.

This was part of her testimony before the Special Select Committee on the Sale and Disposal of Jammeh Assets Identified by the Janneh Commission.

Testifying on a video call, Ms. Drammeh confirmed that she received summonses from the committee and submitted several documents, including witness statements and official letters, to support the investigation. She explained that her duties were task-driven and that she reported directly to the commission secretary, not the commissioners themselves.

During her testimony, she described coordinating the logistics of the auctions, supervising teams on the ground, and ensuring buyers received proper release-of-sale documents. She said her responsibilities included compiling descriptive and tabulated reports of auction proceedings, maintaining transaction records, and acting as the “eyes and ears” of the commission during field operations.

Ms. Drammeh clarified that she was not involved in valuing the assets, which was conducted by a separate team. She confirmed that some tractors were reserved for state use, and her team ensured these were properly accounted for. She also noted instances where assets were moved between locations without direct supervision, requiring verification from local officers.

While the auctions were publicly advertised, no formal registration of attendees was maintained. Ms. Drammeh further stated that numeric, tabulated reports documenting the value and disposition of assets exist but have yet to be formally submitted to the committee.

Her testimony provides insight into the operational framework of the Janneh Commission’s asset disposal process. The committee is expected to schedule follow-up sessions to review the detailed numeric reports and further examine auction records.
