INEC rejects Julius Abure as LP national chairman

The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has rejected Julius Abure as the National Chairman of the Labour Party.

Abure and other LP’s National Working Committee (NWC) members were re-elected at the party’s national congress held in Nnewi, Anambra State, in March.

However, the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) rejected the outcome of the congress and vowed that it would not recognize Abure as the LP national chairman.

The NLC spokesman, Benson Upah, had in a chat with journalists after the congress vowed that the organized labour would never back the party under Abure’s leadership.

The congress declared its position in a counter-affidavit filed on the party’s suit at the Federal High Court, Abuja.

The LP was challenging its exclusion from INEC’s refresher training for party agents ahead of the governorship elections in Edo and Ondo States.

The Edo governorship election will take place on Saturday.

INEC had in its response to the suit insisted that Abure’s tenure as LP national chairman expired in June.
