In a landmark achievement for Gambian football, Lamin Kabba Bajo, President of the Gambia Football Federation (GFF), has been appointed Chairperson of a FIFA Standing Committee, marking a historic first for the country.
The GFF confirmed that Bajo will lead FIFA’s Grassroots and Amateur Football Committee for the 2025–2029 term. The appointment underscores FIFA’s recognition of his leadership and commitment to developing football at all levels.
In another milestone for Gambian football, Maimuna Kanteh, a member of the GFF Executive Committee, has been appointed to FIFA’s Youth Girls’ Competition Committee. Kanteh will collaborate with Anya James of the Bahamas, who will serve as Chairperson, and Naziah Ali of Fiji, Deputy Chairperson, alongside other international committee members.
The GFF described Kanteh’s appointment as a continuation of the positive momentum created by Bajo’s recent selection, highlighting the growing influence of Gambian officials within global football governance.
These appointments are seen as a major boost for football in The Gambia, enhancing the country’s visibility on the international stage and providing opportunities to influence the development of grassroots, amateur, and youth football programs worldwide.
