Gunjur Man Accused of Criminal Trespass and Property Damage

By Isatou Sarr

A man identified as Malang Nyassi, a resident of Gunjur, has appeared before Magistrate K.B. Sambou of the Brikama Magistrates’ Court, charged with two counts of criminal trespass and malicious injury to property.

On the first count, Nyassi is accused of criminal trespass, contrary to Section 262 of the Criminal Offences Act, 2025. According to the particulars of the offence, on the 20th of October 2025, at Gunjur Madina-Salam in the West Coast Region, the accused allegedly entered the compound of Marina Andrea Van Ven Berge and Cherno Joof with the intent to intimidate and annoy them.

On the second count, Nyassi faces a charge of malicious injury to property, contrary to Section 290 of the same Act. It is alleged that on the same day, he willfully and unlawfully broke a window glass valued at D5,000, said to be the property of the same complainants.

The charges were read to the accused in English and interpreted into Mandinka, which he understood. He pleaded not guilty to both counts.

The prosecuting officer, Corporal E. Fofana, representing the Inspector General of Police, did not object to bail, noting that the offences are bailable. He, however, applied for an adjournment to enable the prosecution to secure its witnesses.

Magistrate Sambou granted the application and released the accused on bail in the sum of D50,000, with one Gambian surety who must present a valid national identity card or passport to the court registrar.

The case was adjourned to the 15th of December 2025 for the hearing of the first prosecution witness (PW1).
