GID Breaks Revenue Record With Over D580 Million Collected in 10 Months

The Gambia Immigration Department (GID) has registered its highest revenue performance in recent years, pulling in D584,414,478.30 between January and October 2025.

The figure, covering the first three quarters of the year, marks a remarkable 112% jump from the D275 million collected during the same period in 2024.

The department’s revenue for the first ten months of 2025 has also exceeded the entire annual total for 2024, which stood at D420.2 million—an indication of what officials describe as a year of “unprecedented gains.”

In a statement issued on Tuesday, GID attributed the surge to strengthened financial controls, tighter enforcement measures, and improved service delivery across its various units. Collections came through the Gambia Biometric Identification System, routine immigration fees, and transactions handled through the Integrated Financial Management Information System (IFMIS).

The department said the results highlight the growing contribution of immigration services to the national revenue basket. It credited the boost to streamlined documentation processes, enhanced capacity among cashiers and frontline officers, and stricter enforcement of aliens registration regulations.

GID also pointed to wider access to national documents for Gambians at home and abroad as a key factor in the rising numbers. The statement reaffirmed The Gambia’s commitment to rolling out the ECOWAS National Biometric Identity Card (ENBIC), which authorities say will ease identification and strengthen regional mobility.

Despite the strong performance, the department acknowledged on-going challenges, including limited resources, mobility constraints and legislative gaps that continue to hamper border management and immigration operations.

Rising irregular migration remains a pressing concern. Describing the trend as “alarming,” GID called on communities, landlords, and local authorities to support the enforcement of aliens registration laws and help safeguard the country’s territorial integrity.

Led by Director General Ebrima Mboob, the department reiterated its commitment to plugging revenue leakages, adopting modern technology, curbing irregular migration, and strengthening the capacity of its staff to maintain an efficient, service-driven institution.
