Gambian International Saidy Eyes National Representation

By: Kemo Kanyi

Modou Saidy Fadiga, a Gambian international footballer, says he is determined to represent The Gambia in continental and global competitions in the future.

Speaking to The Voice newspaper from his base in Latvia, the 27-year-old midfielder of BFC Daugavpils said his broader ambition is to don the national colours at both the African Cup of Nations and the World Cup.

BFC Daugavpils is a professional Latvian football club competing in the Latvian Higher League.

“I intend to keep working hard, get enough playing time, improve myself, and one day represent my country, The Gambia. I want to play for bigger clubs, especially in Europe. This is my daily fight,” Saidy stated.

Saidy previously moved from Greater Tomorrow FC, a Gambian Division One side, to Elite Falcons in Dubai, before joining Latvian club FUTBOLA KLUBS RFS for the first round of their league. He later transferred to BFC Daugavpils, where he has become a key player, featuring in all second-round matches of the Latvian Higher League.

He was scouted by The Gambia national U-20 technical team ahead of the continental competition held in Ghana, but was unable to participate due to ongoing transfer transactions.
