Gambia Police Force (GPF) is currently investigating an attempted infanticide matter of a newborn baby allegedly found alive with mouth sealed and placenta intact in a flush toilet within the Brikama Hospital on Tuesday afternoon, 28th October,2025.
The alleged incident has raised public eyebrows regarding the unknown identity of the suspect and the circumstances associated with what many people referred to as an unfortunate situation.
The baby is reported to have been found by a 40-year-old female janitor during routine toilet inspection, and the said toilet is not big enough to accommodate the baby. Eyewitnesses also gave the same account.
As at press time, the baby has been taken to Brikama General Hospital for emergency medical attention, and the hospital authorities disclosed that investigations were underway regarding the alarming incident, but no suspects have yet been identified and the circumstances connected.
As part of their crime investigations, GPF is calling on the public to cooperate with them by providing useful information that will lead to the identification and arrest of the suspect.
Observers say, CCTV cameras should be installed and functional within the toilet facilities of the hospital with a proper monitoring system, and also pay keen attention to midwives’ operations in the hospital.
